WOMEX – the World Music Expo / Thessaloniki, Greece / 17 – 21 Oct 2012

Club sounds will be in the limelight at this year’s WOMEX, with a specific programme dedicated to DJs. There will be two special club nights on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th October, with three DJs on each night in a Thessaloniki club venue, yet to be announced.

Saturday’s line-up is already confirmed, put together by WOMEX Jury member Allie Silver:
– A Tribe Called Red (Canada)
– Gypsy Box (Mexico/Spain)
– Hugo Mendez & Frankie Francis (Sofrito) (UK/France)

Also in the mix at the WOMEX DJ Summit is a dedicated Conference Session entitled ‘World Music, Global Bass, and the Future of Hybrid Music’, which will be chaired by Benjamin Lebrave (France/Ghana), Akwaaba Music; with panelists Jay Rutledge (USA/Germany), Outhere Records; freelance journalist Jean-Christophe Servant (France); and Boima Tucker (Sierra Leone/USA), aka DJ Chief Boima.

In addition, a DJ Networking Meeting entitled ‘Global Bass Networking Session: Making Space for the Bass at WOMEX’ – coordinated by Allie Silver (USA/Argentina), ZZK Records; and Conference Session chair Benjamin Lebrave – will connect professionals from the scene.
