Pandit Janardan – Raga Yaman

Pandit Janardan Mitta is a renowned sitarist, and exponent of Hindustani classical music.  He is also a disciple of the legendary Pandit Ravi Shankar.  Coming from a musical family, Pandit Mitta started his journey by teaching himself to play the sitar on his sister’s sitar, before he met Ravi Shankar and began official tutelage under him.  It was Pandit Mitta’s father, who allowed him to leave the field of engineering, to pursue music with Pandit Shankar.  Mitta’s playing style is characterized his delicate touch on the instrument, and his eloquent interpretation of each raga.  He has had a strong presence in the Chennai film industry for the past 40 years, and has also performed at the UN – a truly accomplished musician, and inspiring artist.  This is his interpretation of Raga Yaman – a romantic raga, usually performed in the evening.
