From Sufi To Soul: IndiEarth At The Park

Daughter of renowned ghazal ustad Rajkumar Rizvi and Indian classical singer Indrani Rizvi, and unparalleled in her own ability to interpret ghazal, Sufi, folk and Thumri music with equal élan and grace, Runa Rizvi is a performer whose versatility puts her in a league of her own. Inspired by Pakistani ghazal singer Mehdi Hassan, her vocal abilities bring together both a sense of power and serenity in a single note — a characteristic that makes her music truly unique. Her style is an exquisite combination of classical Bengali and Rajasthani influences.

Runa will be the first performer on Saturday July 5th at IndiEarth At The Park – IndiEarth’s monthly gig series at The Park Chennai, an initiative that offers a space for independent musicians to express themselves. Artists programmed for the series span various genres from all across the country and the world.

LA born Australia based DJ/producer Astro Black is no stranger to the spotlight. Bringing together house and nu disco with heavy influences of soul and funk, his signature sound is set to fire up the dance floor at The Leather Bar for most of the night (and possibly into the wee hours of the morning). After playing his high energy, sweat inducing sets all around the world in the USA, Europe, Australia and Morocco, Astro Black is now embarking upon an India tour – with Chennai on his sonic tour map.

So mark your calendars, ladies and gentlemen, and come experience these talented artists live and loud this Saturday, July 5th at The Park Chennai. More details available on the Facebook page here.
